Bank Teller Who Was Addicted To QVC Shopping Channel Faces Embezzlement Charge
Authorities said Cassandra Ryder took over $113,000 from the Branch Bank and Trust from Jan. 5, 2005, to Sept. 19, 2007.
Commentary: I’d love to see an account of her QVC history. I mean, if we can get the Schools and Erlanger salaries, why can’t we get this?
GA Sales tax holiday starts Thursday
Shoppers in Georgia will be able to buy certain clothing items, school supplies, computers and computer accessories without paying sales tax during the state’s sales tax holiday from 12:01 a.m. Thursday until midnight on Sunday. This year’s holiday comes about a week before most local schools open for the fall.

Every four years, those Hamilton County residents that bother to vote head to the precinct, grab the ballot, walk over to the booth, and after choosing among familiar candidates whose signs and TV ads have littered public life, sit there staring at a lengthy list of questions starting with the word “shall” and bearing names they’ve hardly, if ever, seen. Underneath each question is an option to vote “Yes” or “No.” What kind of election is this?

My Summer with the Famous San Diego Chicken! – Chattanooga, Tennessee
With only about 36 hours in the very clean and very friendly city of Chattanooga, Tennessee, we really did not get to do a whole lot of ’site seeing’. We arrived in Atlanta, Georgia on Thursday, July 24, 2008, after a 4.5 hours flight from Vancouver, and we still had to make the 1.5 hour drive to Chattanooga from Atlanta. We did not arrive until after midnight, and we were all jet-lagged from the long flight back to the east coast.
Commentary: Nothing majorly great to say about the stadium, a shame he didn’t get a chance to hang around town.

From the various tweets & photos on the Chattarati pool on Flickr, it looks like everyone had a great weekend.
We’re taking one of our most served meals off of the menu…I’m declaring Mondays as “VW-free Monday” on the Breakfast Club. We’re looking forward to VW, but we’ve got other links for your digestion. – Enjoy
Navigating the World’s Longest Yard Sale
Early in August — this year the dates are Aug. 7-10 — an estimated 4,000 vendors line Highway 127 all the way from Defiance, Ohio, to Gadsden, Ala. That’s about 630 miles of pulled pork sandwiches, cookie jars in the shape of a monk, board games you haven’t thought of in decades, and piles and piles of other American ephemera.
- Yes, it’s that time again. Bring singles, fives and patience.

Following their whirlwind building renovation, Normal Park Museum Magnet school has adopted a new brand identity, including the above logo, as well as a new name for their athletic teams: Normal Park Lightning. The “progressive and energetic” scheme was developed over the course of several months as Armchair Media brand strategist and NPMM parent Kenny Ferguson interviewed parents, teachers, and community leaders to get to the bottom of what makes their school special.

Bacon Away! We start off this Breakfast Club with a story of self-cutting and follow an arc of serendipitous links as a way to closeout the week.
Study Links Teen Sex to Self-Cutting
According to a release from Chattanooga’s Why Know Abstinence Education group, there is a new study which shows that teenagers who frequently engage in self-cutting are more likely to be sexually active.
- If you’re cutting yourself, you’re doing it wrong. Damn emo kids, gotta give the prudes a reason to justify their existence. (photo by Martin Deutsch)

I was as excited as anyone when I heard the news about the new auto plant, but my enthusiasm went down the drain this morning when I saw how willing our city is to sacrifice its heritage at the altar of VW. Seriously, what is with all these German-language banners hanging all over downtown. In America, we say “Welcome,” thank you very much.

Good Morning Race Fans! I spent yesterday on a good will mission to Knoxville and while we enjoyed our time there…damn, it’s good to be home. Nothing makes you appreciate what we have here, until you go elsewhere.
Reward Is More Than Just The Pay At Erlanger – And Response (2)
Thank you for publishing my salary. It doesn’t seem like much in comparison to other lists you have posted in the past, but I would like to make a point.
Although I do have to make a living, the money I take home is only part of my compensation. In my position I don’t have direct patient contact, but I am able to greet family members as we pass in the corridors. To smile, say hello and hopefully bring some bit of cheer to their day as they visit friends and family we’re taking care of is a benefit dollars can’t match.
- I worked for Erlanger and can say that John’s comment is echoed in many of the workers. So what, if people make over $60k, what do you think these people make at other hospitals? We have a world-class facility here in Chattanooga and you have to treat it as such.

Why is everyone so excited by Volkswagen’s announcement to open a new factory in Chattanooga? It won’t solve Tennessee’s current financial problems. It seems the state’s politicians are in the pocket of “Big Auto” trying to use the same old lies. The Bredesen plan is a hoax. After all, it will take at least 10 years for the first tire from this factory to ever make it to an American highway.
- We’re all pretty jazzed about VW coming to Tennessee, but what’s the big picture?
