15 years after our last one shut its doors, Chattanooga may soon have another abortion clinic.

    This is good sign for Chattanooga and the region. Oppression (of women+choice+individual liberties+access to healthcare) is boring and played out. The righteous folks can have church in their own bodies.

    Jessica, trying to make this a women’s rights issue carries no weight with me. This is a life issue to which all are entitled. Framing abortion as a natural outgrowth of the enlightenment is flawed at its very core. The enlightenment, amongst other things was about reason and acknowledging that all humans had rights. These rights are imparted to both the elderly and youngest amongst us. It is our job to speak up for those most fragile creatures amongst us -- those who can not speak for themselves.
  • The Pro-Abortion groups also tend to leave out the racist intent of abortion. Margaret Sanger founded what is now called Planned Parenthood with the intent to decrease the African-American population. The real oppression that you speak of is on the minority community and the lower class, both which are targets of abortion. Don't expect this clinic to be on Signal or Lookout Mountain. It will be easily accessible to the minority and lower class population of Chattanooga.

    This is heartbreaking news. Abortion has become so politicized in "women's rights" and "the right to privacy" arguments that people forget that this is the termination of a life. Abortion isn't a magic pill that makes the baby's existence go "poof," but an invasive medical procedure that brutally tears apart, burns and rips fetuses (Latin for baby).

    I wish that people would forget about the politics of the issue and look at the reality that happens. A life was created. While this life may not be wanted by its parents, it's a life nonetheless.

    Doesn't this life deserve the most basic right of mankind--to fully develop and live?

    I pray that this evil place will quickly close from lack of business.

    I, too, am saddened by this news. I'll agree w/ Jonathan that the location will be accessible to the the citizens of East Lake, Alton Park, and similar neighborhoods. It won't be in one of the more scenic spots of the city (i.e. Fairyland, Signal Mountain Blvd., or along the North Shore).
    At the very least, though, the upside is the churches of this city will band together like never before. People will be required to put their money where their mouth is.

  • Either way you believe, it's not about women's rights...it's about the right of a living being that can't make that choice, and did nothing to be put in that situation.

    A fetus is not a child and none of you fakes believe it. If you did, you'd try to stop what you pretend you believe is murder. If you really believed there were CHILD MURDERS in Nashville and Atlanta EVERY DAY you would go down there and SO SOMETHING, EVERY DAY. You are fakes and frauds. Pathetic.

  • Those deserving the death penalty made a decision that lead them to that point. The innocent children have no input into the choice that is made for them.

    Sam Harris makes an interesting point: "If God is the divine, and orchestrates humanity and nature, how can we explain the tens of millions of miscarriages that happen every year? Wouldn't this make God the most prolific abortionist in the history of mankind?"

    those of you with no children....or if you do have children...have you EVER seen a 7 week ultrasound of a fetus? there is in fact a heartbeat. and also, at 10 weeks there are little tiny hands and feet????? it is usually in these first few weeks that most abortions take place. sad, sad, sad..i really hope that this clinic does not happen here.

    As someone else said, the death penalty is clearly a separate issue as it is punishment/deterrence for crimes already committed.

    Regarding God being the most "prolific abortionist in the history of mankind," God does not "orchestrate" humanity. God created humanity... there's a difference. One implies a conrol over humanity and the other implies simply the creation of humanity. But let's not get into a religious discussion where it really isn't needed.

    I'm a staunch Christian, but I don't believe abortion is as big a religious issue as people make it out to be. NOBODY in their right mind believes that killing babies is acceptable, right? Everyone can agree on this part, it's okay. I'm not trying to trick you. The issue surrounding abortion is WHEN does a sperm joining with an egg become a baby. If we had solid scientific proof that it became a baby at the moment of conception, I believe that EVERY pro-choice person in the world would immediately throw down their pro-choice banner and be against abortion because, as I said, nobody believes that killing babies is okay, and they would have proof that it was actually a baby they're killing. As it stands right now, "fetus" is nothing more than a latin word to describe the lump of flesh in a pregnant woman's body. Although, I believe that it is a human life as soon as conception happens, not everyone else does. I think they're wrong and I'll fight them tooth and nail to prove it, but showing them the Bible and telling them about God isn't going to do it if they don't believe in God or in the infallibility of the Bible. As much as it pains me to say on an issue as important as a human life, I've learned to "agree to disagree" with pro-choicers. While we don't agree on the definition of a human life, we do agree that killing babies is wrong. I guess that's something, right?
