Though the Bijou Theater closed late last year, film buffs will still be able to watch new, obscure movies on the big screen in the Scenic City. The Independent Film Series—announced this week by the Arts & Education Council—begins Friday, Jan. 29 at a new home: the Carmike Majestic 12.
The 12-week series includes a wide range of genres, Academy Award and Golden Globe nominees, breakout films from new directors and one (That Evening Sun, starring Hal Hartley) that was filmed in Knoxville, Tenn.
A new film opens each Friday and plays for one week. For showtimes and ticket prices, visit carmike.com. AEC is also offering a $15 Film Club Card which will give moviegoers matinee prices on evening shows, 10 percent discounts at select downtown restaurants and other savings.
