Tuesday night, 75 Chattanooga-area residents, most somehow connected via Twitter, gathered for ChattUp '08. We came together to count the votes and socialize face-to-face, many for the first time, in the loft-style digs of Coptix. We congregated around televisions and projector screens, typed feverishly on (mostly) Apple laptops and shared a few drinks. And as our online and offline connections intertwined throughout the evening, we witnessed history together.
But you weren't looking for an inspirational West Wing-esque post, were you? As might be expected, the young tech-savvy crowd leaned heavily to the left, but it was clearly a nonpartisan event. Just as we'd hoped, there were elitists, mavericks, independents and all sorts of people in between. The brave Adrienne Royer—who I thought might've been the Palin impersonator campaigning on Hixson Pike earlier that evening—showed up proudly rocking her Palin Power T-shirt. We even had a celebrity sighting when the always entertaining Andy Berke stopped by. I spent the evening mostly neglecting my self-imposed assignment to cover the Chattarati Twitter feed and instead trying to meet as many new faces as possible. I didn't make it around to everyone, but luckily it was, you know, a Twitter event. There was a bit of digital evidence left behind about what went down: Here's the unofficial transcript and what Twitter said about ChattUp. If you were there, share your stories. If you weren't, hopefully we'll see you next time.

"crowd leaned heavily to the left"
Do you really think so? ;) I kicked myself for not wearing my Bush "Farm Team" hat.

Surely there were more pictures taken?

I'm happy to be the the token Republican among the tech crowd. We're with national statistics at least.

@ David -- Maybe I was just hanging with the wrong crowd.
@ PhragMunkee -- m.kelley has a few on Facebook, but Chip, our intrepid photographer was dismayed by the lighting and didn't get very many shots he was happy with.
@ Adrienne -- We're glad you were, too. I think there might've been more Libertarians than GOP loyalists!

Looks like it was fun ... wish I could be there but had to follow the returns with my nine year old for his homework.
Tried to explain electoral college to him ... fail.

I had mixed feelings when Obama won. I mean I did want Obama to win over McCain, but at the same time, I'm not sure if Obama will truly be able to bring about real *change* whatever that may be.
