I think wrcbtv is the better of the pack by far. They have better copies writers by far and their grammer is much more accurate. I long for the days when the anchors were reporters instead of copy readers though.

While I agree with Jimi Lee regarding WRCB being the leader in Chattanooga news stations... to be the best of that group is not really saying a lot.

All of the local stations do a poor job of sensationalizing stories and highlighting stories that aren't really newsworthy.

Finally, while I realize it's the reality for TV news... I'd like to think that we could have a news outlet that didn't subscribe to the "if it bleeds, it leads" mindset.

The local media here is pretty bad. I mean local news is bad everywhere, but Chattanooga raises being bad to an art form.

Stories seem poorly written, researched, and presented.

I watch for weather (in the mornings) and that is it.

Each station offers a different flavor. 3 is very slow and conservative and saturated with school reports, 9 is ultra sensational and littered with crime reports, and 12 is quick and offers more state political news and features. I personally prefer 12, but I'm a political news junky.

TV news depth nationwide is limited by the fact that it is limited by time — and a pathological obsession with weather.

That said, I will say that some local stations (who shall remain nameless, sorry) are making some noticeable strides in their on-air product, as well as their online presence.

Trouble is, for many of the reporters, Chattanooga is but a temporary stop on the way to the top. Or to working in insurance or pharmaceutical sales.

I too have noticed some interesting changes on the online front. That said, I simply forget that local news exists until I'm waiting for Letterman or SNL to come on. Curiously, I spend a lot of time watching CNN, so I think there's still a market for it -- even for web junkies like myself.

I grew up in New Orleans and moved here 13 years ago. You might be able to say a lot of bad things about nola, but their local news is top notch. The local stations often win national awards and compete amongst themselves for the Peabody Award or the National Edward R. Murrow award. Many of the news reporters on the national news outlets first worked in one of the New Orleans affiliates. That said I was not prepared for the local news when I first moved to Chattanooga. I could hardly believe that night after night they could produce the same train wreck over and over.

I've lived here for a little over two years now, and I've only watched local TV for news once or twice ... and that's only when I knew they covered something I was involved in. Before that, I lived near Asheville, NC and never watched any of their local TV stations for news. Prior to that, I lived near Raleigh, NC, and rarely ever watched any of the local TV stations, even though one of the stations there (WRAL) is probably has one of the better news crews in the nation (I did and still do visit their web site for local news, though).

I'm just not into TV. Heck, I don't even watch CNN, FOX, etc.
