Get Out, Chattanooga

By John Hawbaker | Dec. 17, 2008, 10:07 a.m.

You've surely heard Chattanooga called the "Boulder of the East" because of the abundance of activities for outdoor enthusiasts. We've all been locked away in front of our computers for too long, but here are a few fun things to check out if you're into that sort of thing.

Rock/Creek is hosting the longest trail race in Chattanooga history this Saturday. Outdoor Chattanooga is sponsoring Bike Polo (yes, you read that right) on the lawn at Ross's Landing every Wednesday evening at 5pm. And, for a more regular dose of Chattanooga sporting news, visit LookOutdoorNews.com.

Last but not least, don't forget to help save Stringer's Ridge.

There is a link on the Outdoor Chattanooga Web page to get a weekly e-newsletter of outdoor events around the community. No spam or advertising, I promise.

I lived in Boulder for 8 years before moving down to Denver this past May. I agree that Chattanooga has many of the same great attributes for outdoor enthusiasts. I am always proud to brag about Chattanooga's beautiful scenery, trails, paths, rivers and mountains to my friend's in "Boulder of the West." It's great to see Chattanoogans taking full advantage of the beauty that surrounds them. It truly is a special place. Many people out here that have never been to the south have no idea and are always blown away when I show them pictures of Nooga.

Take a look at a new website put together by some local outdoor enthusiasts. LookOutdoorNews.com is an outdoor event news and photography site based out of Chattanooga, TN. We feature climbing, cycling, kayaking, and many other outdoor activities from around Chattanooga and the southeast.

They are bringing us our 1st Annual Telluride MountainFilm on Tour in Chattanooga!
