CQ: Who Would You Draft to Run Against Mayor Littlefield?

By Chattarati Staff | Sept. 15, 2008, 3:02 p.m.

We've been searching high and low for information on who, if anyone, will challenge incumbent Ron Littlefield in the upcoming mayor's race. The only known candidate so far is former Littlefield employee Rob Healy, who may be denied his chance by the Hamilton County Election Commission, depending on how they interpret the ambiguous city charter rules. So, we're taking the question to the streets: Who would you draft to run against Mayor Ron Littlefield?

    Josh McManus

  2. tridad on Sept. 15, 2008

    Fakeron

  3. Kevin Burke on Sept. 15, 2008

I really don't know if there's anyone that's currently in city government that I'd draft to run against Mayor Littlefield. As far as others, I don't know of anyone I'd want in there either...how about Wally Witkowski?

We need a mayor whose all business, a mayor with the stature and intelligence of Kinsey or Corker.

I'm very impressed by Kim White (she runs Luken Properties but took the position when it was still owned by Corker). Too bad that would stir another 'power structure' debate.

  5. PhragMunkee on Sept. 15, 2008

    Josiah Roe for Mayor!

  6. photosbyzod on Sept. 16, 2008

Its a toss between Kevin Burke, Bill Colrus, or the Poetry Lady panhandler.

  7. AdamHK on Sept. 16, 2008

Vicky Gregg would get my support and vote.

  8. josiahq on Sept. 16, 2008

    Vicky Gregg would be amazing

  9. joe lance on Sept. 16, 2008

Public political donor information indicates that Ms. Gregg resides in Lookout Mountain, which would make her ineligible for this cycle.

  10. AdamHK on Sept. 16, 2008

Vicky Gregg has lived downtown for awhile now and is eligible for this cycle. I don't think she'd forfeit her post at BCBST, especially since they are about to move to their new campus but maybe one day...

    Irvin Overton.

  12. davidm. on Sept. 16, 2008

  13. photosbyzod on Sept. 16, 2008

Davidm - Oh that's just scary. Funny tho.

  14. Kevin on Sept. 16, 2008

    @photosbyzod, I should run.

  15. Kevin on Sept. 16, 2008

But I'll vote for June to add a little humor to the office.

  16. photosbyzod on Sept. 16, 2008

Kevin - You run, you have my vote. June runs + wins, I sell my iPhone, move to Montana and become a survivalist.

  17. Bill on Sept. 17, 2008

I know who I would like to see run, but I'm not allowed to say.

  18. davidm. on Sept. 17, 2008

Colrus has been peddling that "I know but I won't say" routine for over a week. Jerk. (I kid)

Sadly, June Griffin lives in Rhea County. So she's out.

  19. Ryan on Sept. 18, 2008

In all seriousness...Joe Lance! He probably cares more about politics than most politicians who've been at it for years. Just Vote Joe!

  20. Bill Colrus on Sept. 18, 2008

    I would vote for Joe.

  21. David Morton on Sept. 18, 2008

    Ditto that.
Hey Joe, what do you think about the Bush Doctrine?

  22. Kevin on Sept. 18, 2008

Joe and I disagree on several fundamental issues, but at the local level, I think I'd vote for him. Go Joe.

  23. josiahq on Sept. 18, 2008

time for a draft joe campaign?

  24. John Hawbaker on Sept. 19, 2008

Run, Joe, Run! (to the tune of Drill, Baby, Drill)

  25. Bill on Sept. 19, 2008

I don't know if I mentioned this or not, but I'd vote for Joe.
Oh, wait, I did mention it. Up there.
    Well, count me twice then.

  26. m.kelley on Sept. 19, 2008

Draft him while we still Joementum ....

  27. Jonathan on Sept. 19, 2008

We could totally ripoff the Chatt State billboards...

  28. cmwillis on Sept. 19, 2008

Who's that guy with the wheelchair and the dog? He seems nice.

  29. Kevin Burke on Sept. 21, 2008

@Jonathan - and if we did rip them off it would be ok since his name really is Joe!

  30. Dave Newmyer on Sept. 24, 2008

Mayor Bill Hullander (of HULCO) not really.

  31. Steffi Hitzel on Sept. 25, 2008

I would draft David Saluk. Read his replies to various opinions he's posted on The Chattanoogan. He's got a brain. If you agree he might make a good mayor, you should send him an email at aluk22@yahoo.com and give him the thumbs up.

  32. John Hawbaker on Oct. 28, 2008

A month later, there is still no viable candidate declared as an alternative in this race. However, there is one name on this page I'd like to see enter the contest.

  33. J. Ralston on Nov. 1, 2008

Have any of you heard of Rob Hatchett as a potential candidate? He's still fairly new to Chattanooga so name may not be too familiar yet. Came here from Nashville a year ago. He is the GM of Crye-Leike. He is young and that may be holding him back from running but everyone I've talked to says he is a dynamic leader and would be great for Chattanooga. I think he is 28 which is young but we need some energy and young blood in our leadership. Anybody know anything?

  34. John Hawbaker on Nov. 2, 2008

I'm not familiar with Rob Hatchett, but the city charter lists an age requirement of 30 for the office of mayor, so Hatchett would not be eligible if he is only 28.

  35. Phil McGroin on Nov. 17, 2008

I know Rob Hatchett and yes, what a leader he is and would make someday in a community. I think a more qualified candidate would be Alan Sisk. Mr. Sisk has an impeccable resume, when it comes to leadership and guideance within a community. Here is just a brief example of the impact Mr Sisk would have on Chattanooga. Mr. Sisk lived adjacent to the Hidden Valley Ranch retirement community down in Climax, GA and only two years into his residency, the Hidden Valley Ranch community was looking for a fresh, new face and attitude to govern their community. Even though Mr. Sisk was not an official resident of the community, he was a regular..... teaching water aerobics.... on the shuffle board deck...... Bingo night every Thursday..... At the ripe old age of 25, Mr. Sisk had won the hearts and adoration of the entire community by his willingness to give everything he had to make people's lives better. Often times, they would seek counsel from Mr. Sisk on major community decisions and when township position became vacant and Hidden Valley Ranch was in dire need of leadership and support, Mr. SIsk was the natural fit. It has been several years since Mr. Sisk has been operating as "Township Mayor" of Hidden Valley Ranch and since then, they have created such revenue generating activities as the "Old Timer's" Pose Down Meets, Lawn Tractor Baja's, Grasshopper Races and the famous of all.... Hidden Valley Ranch Salad Dressing Competition. You might have some of their products in your refrigerator today.

If I could have a write in vote for Mayor of Chattanooga, it would have to be Alan Sisk.

Please leave Vicki Gregg to run my company, I do not have many complaints against Ron Littlefield so I would like him to run against himself
