    The answer is both!

One North Shore is uglier but The Doubletree is so bright it's offensive!

Brick lasts forever so One North Shore is going to stay with us for quite awhile. They haven't put on the finishing details yet but it'll be hard to improve it much. My bet is that The Doubletree will be re-painted within 5 years. One plus that One North Shore does have is that they included extremely wide sidewalks, maybe 15 feet, on Manufacturers Road.

Also, how pretty is the Chattanooga Sky right now? Just look at those photos!

clearly the 70's ghetto style projects top the chart of ugliness!

One North Shore for sure... it's pretty much finished and looks like the projects! No offense...

    ;)

I'm holding my vote until the Doubletree is complete, but right now the Doubletree is uglier.

One North Shore: the architecture of Soviet Russia with all the comforts of the North Shore

  6. PhragMunkee on Sept. 17, 2008

Definitely One North Shore. The DoubleTree looks like a hotel. One North Shore looks like a Soviet Russia apartment complex.

One North Shore. It's a cross between a freshman dorm from the 1960s or an urban housing project. For $275,000 I would like to live somewhere pretty and convenient.

Doubletree, hands down. It looks hideous. At least One North Shore is brick. Doubletree uses two colors that should never go on the outside of any building.

One North Shore isn't actively ugly, it just fails to be attractive. The Doubletree on the other hand, defies any attempt to use English to describe its awfulness. The best I can do is "sets a new standard for fugly."

heard 'round town - "One North Shore, ghetto living without the crime"

love Seinfeld? Look for exterior shots of his building and you'll see it looks very similar to One North Shore. Hmmm...

From your pictures... One North Shore is way uglier. At least DoubleTree is trying with their paint-job.
This is sad because One North Shore is for Chattanoogans. The DoubleTree is for visitors.

Definitely One North Shore. Looks straight outta the 70's...

  13. nicole on Sept. 18, 2008

Definitely One North Shore... can we say "section 8 housing"?

  14. nicole on Sept. 18, 2008

Oh one more thing.... One North Shore really makes Green Housing look bad... there are so many earth friendly colors and dyes that can be used. The fact that they chose the fugliest "color scheme" possible really doesn't help the cause.

Both look great for the Methheads. I vote the One North Burns down slower. I also call that the FBI will move out of the Suntrust building and move into the business section of One North.

Can we add the new Bridgeview to the list? The silver at the tower was a bad call!

One North Shore is such a good idea but its just fugly... And honestly, I like Doubletree. Reminds me of buildings I saw in my visit to Luxembourg. Might be a bit in contrast to the surroundings though...

I think that picture actually does One North Shore a favor...it's much uglier in person.

We can't keep building colonial style forever so the attempts to do something different are cool by me. I don't know how the city government works when it comes to big buildings like these two, but why is it that somebody can build a monstrosity without some sort of official design review and permit? Yeah, yeah, the land of the free, you do what you want; but one reason we all think Germany and other European countries are so quaint is because exterior building materials are often codified within neigborhoods and hamlets. DT or 1NS are not so much ugly as they don't fit with their surroundings. And what about some of the other eyesores: that abandoned high rise by Finley, the high rise on Stringers Ridge and, dare I say it, the Business Development Center. That could be a good looking building if restored.

One North Shore reminds me of the tenements in the cult classic horror movie "Candyman". Creeeeepy.

  21. isaac on Dec. 28, 2008

definitely, the 1NS is uglier in person. It can be seen from all over and it looks like the projects have been plopped right in the middle of renaissance park. Maybe when no one will live there they will be forced to add something to cover over the ugly.

Uh, doubletree beyond a doubt. When are they going to finish painting it - Oh wait, they already did...
