Not long after starting his hilarious blog, Stuff White People Like, Christian Lander got a book deal (#92). And now he's coming to Chattanooga, for a signing at Rock Point Books on January 31 (7:00 - 9:00pm). To help prepare ourselves, we spent Saturday afternoon looking for a few things white people like in Chattanooga. Imagine our surprise when we encountered this young lady on Main Street (#73). Not only is she multilingual (#115), she's also taking a year off (#120) before attending grad school (#81). She graciously clued us in to a few favorite things white people like in Chattanooga (and where to find them).
Still basking in the glow of "Yes We Did" (#8), Julie was riding her bicycle (#61) to Taco Rico for lunch, where she hoped to be the only white person around (#71). Naturally, she had her eco-friendly bottle of water (#76) as well as a cup of Greyfriar's coffee (#1), and she was listening to local band Coral Castles (#41) on her iPod Nano (#40). She was decked out in a vintage (#49) tshirt (#84) and coordinating scarf (#97) with a waterproof jacket (#87) from Rock/Creek, in case of rain. She had already picked up a loaf of organic bread (#6) at Neidlov's, which she placed in a hand-woven African basket she'll later carry on a grocery trip to Greenlife (#48) —the quintessential place white people like in Chattanooga.

Way to go Rock Point Books! This guy is gonna be HILARIOUS! I'm going to swing by Hiroshi's for some sushi (#42) beforehand and catch up on the latest New Yorker (#114), which will probably be all about our new president (#8). And since it's going to be cold, I'll be sure to wear my Patagonia jacket (#87) and scarf (101)!
FYI, Rock Point Books has some awesome tote bags (#121) if you are in need of one!

Stuff White People Like = Funny.
Stuff Black [or Asian, Evangelical Christian, Gay, Southern, Male/Female, Jewish, Republican . . .] = Bigoted?

Wow imagine that, finding a white person on Main street.

This is awesome. Chattanooga is kinda the poster city for Stuff White People Like. They could film a TV show here. YouTube idea?

This post is terrifying.

Further, "white people" might just be the biggest brand on the planet. I'm curious as to how many of Julie's clothing/activity/accessory choices were consciously chosen. I mean, if I had to plan all of that every time I left the house, I'd be exhausted.

Rock Point Books?? I love that place! What a perfect venue for Stuff White People Like!! It's so white. I know where I'll be Saturday night, sipping my free trade coffee, reminiscing about my teaching experience in a third world country and wearing my chacos! Yeah Rock Point.

The YouTube idea sounds good. Anybody gonna do it?

if only the majority of white people liked these things (eco friendly water bottle, bicycles, whole grain bread, non-plastic bags) - the world would be quite different. These items seem to belong to a particular subculture of white person.

According to Encyclopedia Dramatica, Stuff White People Like might not include Chattanooga. We aren't even listed as anything but a swear word. Very sad.
