Prepare for another action-packed weekend in the Scenic City. Saturday night alone offers your choice of a Sundance award-winning documentary, semi-pro soccer and an artsy neighborhood event in St. Elmo.
Ochs Center school readiness forum: The Ochs Center presents What it Takes, a public forum on school readiness, Saturday from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the UTC University Center. The keynote speaker is Paul Tough, New York Times columnist and author of Whatever It Takes: Geoffrey Canada’s Quest to Change Harlem and America. State Senator Andy Berke will give the closing address. For more on the Ochs Center's school readiness research, read our recent interview with Monique Berke.
Football, not throwball: Chattanooga FC returns home for a rematch against Rocket City United at Finley Stadium. CFC is coming off of two straight wins and is currently tied for second place in its conference. The match kicks off at 7:00 p.m. and tickets are just $5 for adults, $3 for children. We're told there will even be a second beer line.
Sundown in St. Elmo: The St. Elmo Merchants Association is sponsoring a new monthly event, Sundown in St. Elmo, which will feature working artist receptions, special offers from merchants, live music, and poetry performances. The series will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on the third Saturday of each month. Participating merchants this Saturday include Pasha Coffee & Tea, Umbra Essence, Collective Clothing, and Body Wisdom Therapeutic Massage.
Back Row Films presents FUEL: The Arts and Education Council is screening the full-length environmental documentary FUEL at green|spaces Saturday night at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Q&A with director Josh Tickell.
Ragin' Cajun Dad's Day: The Chattanooga Market, a perpetual Sunday favorite, is giving dads what they want: live music, beer, and spicy cajun food. There are even activities to keep the kids happy while the dads indulge. Urban Rocks is back with their climbing wall (first climb free) and The Learning Express will host a play area.
And yeah, we stole the title for this post from our friends at Nashvillest. Much love!
