Chattanooga FC Lands Two Players on NPSL All-Conference Team

Chattanooga, Tennessee (8/22/09)

The NPSL honored two Chattanooga Football Club players this week with All-Southeastern Conference awards. Midfielder Fynn Glover, a Chattanooga native, and British goalkeeping sensation Richard Masters were selected by NPSL coaches as tops in the conference. "These two young players deserved this award. They both worked extremely hard all season and we would not have been as successful without them," said Brian Crossman, Head Coach for Chattanooga. "The club is excited to have two selections on the All-Conference team. I think it's a great testament to the quality of soccer that was played in Chattanooga this year."

Fynn Glover was a late commitment for the squad earlier this spring. "I thought I was going to be doing an internship in Toronto for the summer, but then I heard about the team being put together and I was offered a summer job with the STAND campaign, so I decided to come play for the FC," recalled Fynn about his road to Chattanooga this summer. Fynn is entering his senior year at the University of Richmond where he is the captain of the team. "I feel that CFC has allowed me to regain my drive and ambition to continue competing in this sport for as long as I am able, so I’m also appreciative at many personal levels to have been involved."

In comparison with Glover’s last minute commitment, Richard Masters was the first player to commit to play with the team. “We are so blessed to have had Richard on board from day one,” said club co-founder Sheldon Grizzle. “We had seen him play for King College, but he had no idea who we were and the club certainly didn’t have anything but a name and a dream. He had a lot of faith in us to commit so early on.”
Richard grew up just outside of London, England and played his youth and amateur career with the famed Charlton Athletic FC. After playing with CAFC, he came to the US to play keeper for King College in Bristol, TN. “I had a great time playing in Chattanooga this summer,” said Masters after the season. “The fans were incredible and the organization made this such an unbelievable experience.”

Although Glover and Masters were the only players selected to the All-Southeast Conference team this year, Chattanooga FC proved its quality throughout the season by finishing the season tied for second place. Currently, the club’s organizers are working on the 2010 plan and hope to make it even better. “We had a great season this year,” said Grizzle. “But we’re not going to sit back and just maintain what we did last year. There are some things we can do better, and we are working on that right now. Next year, we hope to have an even stronger team and to expand what has already become the strongest fan-base in the country.”
