Weekendist: Culture Fest, Super Homecoming and the End of All Seasons

By John Hawbaker | Sept. 25, 2009, 8:46 a.m.

The Main Event — Culture Fest: On Sunday from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., the Chattanooga Market and the Arts & Education Council present the 10th Annual AEC Culture Fest. For the first time in its history, the festival will be held at the First Tennessee Pavilion instead of Coolidge Park. This year's Culture Fest theme is "Flavors of the World," and the schedule of events includes a lineup of cooking demonstrations from around the globe. The schedule also includes live music, dance and theater performances, arts demonstrations and childrens' activities throughout the day. And since it's being hosted by the Market, all your favorite food and arts vendors will be on hand.

Read on for fine wine, music and of course, football.

Free Music Downtown: Enjoy it while it lasts. Which is to say, tonight and tomorrow night.

Last Fridays on Main: As they say, it's the last Last Friday.  Walk the Southside and enjoy live pottery and glass-making demonstrations, along with gallery shows, food and drinks. The 55Here gallery at CreateHere will host the opening reception for its new exhibition, Persona | Anima. Admission for all participating spaces is free from 5 – 7 p.m.

Football at Finley: It's Super Homecoming 2009, and the UTC Mocs face off against Wofford at 6 p.m. on Saturday night.

Wine Over Water: The annual wine-tasting event will be held Saturday night on the Walnut Street Bridge. Tickets are $60.

Boston Brass, blistering precision: The Boston Brass quintet promises to "entertain at all costs with blistering precision" in this Covenant Arts performance at the Dora Maclellan Brown Memorial Chapel on the campus of Covenant College, Saturday evening at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $5 to $30.

Four minus three equals one: Winder Binder Gallery of Folk Art, on the North Shore, is hosting its fourth annual One Bridge Art Festival on Saturday from 12 p.m. – 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. Admission is free.

Opera in Cinema, or how to confuse people in line to See Jennifer's Body: The Rave presents a screening of La Boheme on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Familiar, but by no means vulgar: Ensemble Theater of Chattanooga presents Hamlet at the St. Andrews Center Theatre in Highland Park. Showtimes are Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.
