Getting Hired at Volkswagen

Volkswagen Group of America opened a three-week application period for 1,200 production jobs at the new Chattanooga plant this morning at 7:30 a.m. According to a press release, eligible candidates must submit their applications on the web at www.vwjobschattanooga.com to be considered for employment. Applicants without access to a computer can visit a Tennessee Career Center (Chattanooga, Athens) for assistance.

In a series of press releases leading up to the open application period, Volkswagen provided the following tips for job applicants.

From Volkswagen of America Chattanooga Operations:

Online applications will be accepted from Monday, October 26, at 7:30 a.m. EST through Midnight on Sunday, November 15, 2009.

 

Candidates for production team members at Volkswagen’s future Tennessee manufacturing facility must apply on-line from any computer with Internet access. There is no alternative than applying online.

The application is short and in average will take 10 to 20 minutes to complete. It does not require candidates to have knowledge on any special system or software.

 

Candidates who apply for production team member positions should be prepared for a selection process that includes:

  • a full day assessment, including computer based and hands-on manufacturing simulators

  • an interview

  • a medical and drug screen

  • a background check


The selection activity will go over several months as Volkswagen processes tens of thousands of applications that are expected from interested candidates. The hiring process will start in the first quarter of next year and will continue into 2011 as the tobacco-free plant is built. Candidates should be patient as they are called into the different steps of the selection process.

 

Candidates who apply for production team member positions are not required to have previous automotive experience.

Candidates must meet the following requirements:


  • The ability to switch (rotate) shifts every two weeks

  • The ability to work overtime regularly, including weekends

  • High School diploma or GED

  • Must be 18 years of age or older

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States


Selected production team members will work at one of the following four departments:

  • Body Shop

  • Paint Shop

  • Assembly Shop

  • Quality Assurance


The application line for Production Team Members will be open for 21 days. There is no advantage on applying either the first day or the last day. All applications will be given equal consideration regardless of the day in which each of them were submitted.

 

Candidates who submit an application for the Production Team Member openings will be able to check the status of their application by visiting the same address http://www.vwjobschattanooga.com from any computer with Internet access. This system will be available 24 hours 7 days a week.
