TFP Drops Herman Wang

By David Morton | March 25, 2009, 9:16 a.m.

Kleinheider has the scoop:

Bad news in the Tennessee media world today as Post Politics has learned that workhorse Washington, DC correspondent Herman Wang has been let go today from the Chattanooga Times Free Press.

As a big fan of Herman's work, I'll be sad to see him go, especially if it means we can expect more Capitol Hill coverage from wire services as a result. Thanks, but no thanks. 3.26.09 UPDATE: Other TFP writers that were let go yesterday include Bob Lutgen, Ron Clayton and Jamie Lackey. via 10,000 Monkeys and a Camera

That's terrible. Herman Wang is fantastic, one of the best at the TFP.

Could this be related to the TFP's recently revealed content sharing agreement?

    John,
    Good call.

I'm betting they offered to let him come back to Chatty before this decision. That's pure speculation on my part BTW.

The irony in this story is definitely the humorous title. Also, I am 12 years old...

Agree, this is sad news. Eileen, I and other folks had dinner with Herman before he left. This seems to mean eliminating the bureau costs as well and letting the content-sharers pick up the tab and the news feed.

Wow. Seems like only yesterday I got a "Herman Wang" Google alert stemming from his marriage announcement in some forgotten (to me, at this point in time) Chinese daily. Anyway, it's my opinion he - much like his TFP predecessor Duane Gang - does Good Work. With that in mind, I predict he'll land on his feet, which - given this shit bag economy and worst ever media job environment - is the real measure of his considerable professionial abilities...

Herman was not offered a chance to come back to Chattanooga. His predecessor was Lee Pitts, not Duane Gang. And, yes, he did a terrific job.

I truly hate seeing these talented reporters leave. I wish them all the best.

Herman replaced Duane covering city goverment for the TFP before going to DC...
