You've heard that the newspaper industry is in a bit of trouble, right? While Chattanooga's Times Free Press has actually seen subscriber growth over the past couple years, other Tennessee papers aren't doing so well--and the TFP may be bracing itself for trouble ahead. According to Media Daily News, the Chattanooga newspaper entered into a content sharing agreement with three major regional papers in the state: The Tennessean (Nashville), the Knoxville News-Sentinel, and the Commercial Appeal (Memphis). Under the agreement, any article that appears in one paper may be republished in its entirety by another paper's print edition. Republishing articles on the web requires that only a headline and an excerpt be published, along with a link to the original paper's online article. The article indicates that this is a newspaper trend to watch, as similar regional content-sharing arrangements have been inked by papers in Ohio as well as the New York and DC metro areas.

"Less than a month ago, five newspapers in New York and New Jersey, including The New York Daily News, unveiled a content-sharing club called the Northeast Consortium. Previously, The Washington Post and Baltimore Sun announced a local content-sharing deal in December."
"Northeast Consortium"? Are they serious?
The pompous, out-of-touch mindset that came up with that title is the same mindset that's been killing the newspaper industry since the start of the Internet age.

This is a good look at it from a Memphis-based perspective with a lot of details.

"Hey, you got your Commercial Appeal in my Tennessean!"
"You got your Tennessean in my Commercial Appeal!"
Two great tastes that taste great together!

Maybe TFP can start re-publishing Tennessean articles about the Predators! ;-)
