County Unemployment Rose Slightly in October

The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development released October unemployment figures for the state of Tennessee and Hamilton County on Monday.

In Hamilton County, unemployment rose slightly by 0.1% between September and October to 8.8%. 14,450 workers filed for unemployment in the month of October out of a labor force of 165,030. Unemployment in the Chattanooga, TN-GA Metro Statistical Area dropped by 0.1%, however, to 8.9%. The decrease came as a result of improvements in the Georgia portion of the MSA.

Statewide, unemployment remained at 10.5% between September and October. In October 2008, the state's unemployment rate was 6.9%. And throughout the United States, unemployment rose to 10.2% in the same time period.
