In a press release issued this morning, Chattanooga mayoral candidate Joe Lance announced he was ending his campaign and endorsing Rob Healy. Throughout the campaign, Mr. Lance and Mr. Healy found themselves on the same side of several issues, including prioritizing public safety and finding a better solution to Chattanooga's homeless problem. Mr. Lance alluded to these shared views in his endorsement:
"This campaign was never about me. It is about the city of Chattanooga having the right leadership to take us through the next four years. I have gotten to know Rob Healy during the campaign, and as I have listened to his message, it has become clear that Rob and I share a common set of principles. I value his integrity and experience, and I am confident that he is the right choice in this election. "I sincerely thank those who have shown their commitment to a greater Chattanooga by supporting me. I now ask that we unite our efforts with others and elect Rob Healy to be our next mayor." -Joe Lance, former mayoral candidate
When asked by Chattarati about ending his campaign, he stated:
"I have seen firsthand the tremendous response that occurs when ordinary citizens decide to engage with their government. While running for office is only one of many ways to be involved, I hope my candidacy has inspired others to seek out their own ways, and to act on them." -Joe Lance
Because the official deadline for withdrawal has passed, Mr. Lance's name will remain on the ballot. Early voting begins on February 11 and election day is March 3, 2009.

I do know Joe and he is a good and smart guy with the truest of intentions. Our community would be a lot better off if more people followed his example and became involved in the process.
Best wishes to Mr. Healy. Please Chattanooga do not re-elect Mr. Littlefield.
