The New York Times tells their readers what we already knew:
Whatever the practical result of Tennessee’s new gun laws, they may well serve a political purpose: firing up the conservative base before next year’s state, local and Congressional elections.

Yeah, because the New York Times is such an unbiased source of "news".

Politicians passing laws that might serve as a political purpose?!?!?! WhaaaaaaT????

When did it become acceptable to dismiss something, out of hand, when we disagreed with it? There was a time when someone would be labeled "ignorant" if they were unable to make a point without resorting to cliche, stereotype, or rhetoric.
Now we call journalism that doesn't tell its viewers/readers what to think "liberal news"? Well, I think Fox News is completely right wing and based in lies; now, let me tell you why...
- Fox News regularly fails to examine both sides of an issue
- Fox News distorts fact to serve a commercial purpose
- Fox News "reporters" are admitted entertainers portraying characters
- Fox News says what its viewers want to hear not what they need to hear
And you know what they should hear? That guns pose an unacceptable risk to other members of society when they are held in the presence of intoxicated individuals. (Notice I did not say the gun holder was the intoxicated party.)
Please, please Chattarati readers, prove you're smarter than a Fox News viewer. Please tell me EXACTLY how the NY Times is unbiased. Tell me how their examination of the motives behind Tennessee's gun laws is somehow propaganda. Tell me... I really want to understand your logic. And while you're at it, please explain the rationale behind the gun law itself... and please use something other than the paranoid response that "THEY" are all out to get you. (It's just so cliche.)

"Please tell me EXACTLY how the NY Times is unbiased."
I'd be surprised if anyone can tell you how the NY Times is unbiased. It most certainly the most left-wing biased publication I've ever read.

"And while you're at it, please explain the rationale behind the gun law itself... "
On this site alone, there have been several posts explaining the law. It's not very hard to understand.

I think that all media outlets are biased on some basis. CNN feels liberally biased. FOX News, conservative. NY Times, liberal. And so on. Journalists are responsible for being objective in their news reports but are still human and have their own opinions. I'd say most journalists, now more than ever, go to work for whatever paper, cable news channel, or website that will hire them based on overall talent and objectivity. Eventually, though, they get opportunities to be more opinionated in their reporting (see Sean Hannity, Anderson Cooper and even Keith Olberman, who used to be a sports anchor).
Really, though, I'd say the "Big 3" networks are the only television stations that have *mostly* unbiased news programs. I'm not even sure I can sense any kind of bias during their Sunday morning programs (Meet The Press, etc).
Just my opinion. Disagreements welcome.

A man once said, "I'm biased against self-dealing "we know best" types." Unfortunately, that man failed to realize that he is, in a sense, "the pot calling the kettle black."

Stevaker,
You should be proud of your ability to invoke hoary cliches; it's a rare quality in the developmentally delayed. With that out of the way, I ask that you cite your evidence for your assertion. Not proof, but evidence. You do have a basis for your charge, right? Your move, 'tard bait.

RTN,
Just stop. You had me at "hoary."
You complete me,

Publications you've probably never read:
The Nation
Mother Jones
Utne Reader
New York Observer
New Republic
Daily Kos
Slate.com
Huffington Post
Any book by Noam Chomskey
Any book by Kurt Vonnegut
Any book by Gore Vidal
Also, bear in mind that, contrary to what Rush/O'rielly/Hannity/Ingram/Beck/Savage may assert, smirk, or yell, The New York Times contains an opinion page, clearly labeled as such in print or on the webpage. This section, like in most any other newspaper, is a place for commentary. Even the NYT has opposing views that are in line with those mentioned above (David Brooks; William Krystol).
In the "us and them" world of Fox News and talk radio blowhards, this is intentionally misrepresented, as The Times is presented as the "straw man". This in effect eliminates the true left from the equation, as the center is repositioned to the right. This is why it is no longer possible to discuss politics with any member of my family, who recognize two kinds of news: Fox and liberal propaganda.

One more thing, now that I've mentioned some publications that I find more left-leaning than the NYT, I'd like to share what I've found to be among the most right-wing publications I've ever read:
Limbaugh: The Way Things Ought To Be
Limbaugh: See, I Told You So
Ann Coulter: How To Talk To A Liberal, If You Must ("never apologize to, compliment, or show graciousness to a Democrat.")
The National Review
The American Spectator
The Drudge Report
Please feel free to share what I've probably missed that's further to the right and why.
