On July 7, Chattarati reported that the Community Research Council was poised to change its name to the Ochs Center for Metropolitan Studies. The change now appears to be official. We know because we saw it on Facebook, which led us to their slick new website.
The new site confirms that the Ochs Center, now a partner in the Brookings Institute's Blueprint for American Prosperity group, will be working with other similar organizations in Tennessee and around the country to research issues from a regional perspective.
In addition, the Ochs Center will increasingly examine issues in midsize cities and metropolitan areas across the nation. While discussion of urban policy often focuses on issues from the perspective of the nation's largest cities, those with more than one million residents, more people actually live in midsize cities like Chattanooga (with population between 100,000 and 300,000 residents) that are often the center, or a vital part, of metropolitan areas.
A celebration of the official launch is set for September 15. Chattarati will have more on the Ochs Center as the launch approaches.
