First Friday Five: Give $5 to Help Widows Harvest Repair Storm Damaged Roofs

By Chattarati Staff, John Hawbaker | Oct. 2, 2009, 7:10 a.m.

First Friday Five is an ongoing project to organize one-day online fundraisers for local nonprofit organizations. Read on to learn about this month’s goal and how your $5 donation can help.

After a summer hiatus, we're excited to bring back the First Friday Five fundraising project, and we're proud to be supporting Widows Harvest, a non-profit ministry serving widows in the Chattanooga area.

The recent heavy rains throughout the region have damaged the homes of many women they serve, and the building supplies they need have become more expensive in the last year. For more information on their supply needs, please see this Waiting Projects list provided by Widows Harvest.

Our goal is to raise $500 which will help Widows Harvest purchase building supplies to repair the roofs of eight local widows.

Here's how you can help:

  • Donate $5 directly to Widows Harvest

  • Encourage others to donate by spreading the word on TwitterFacebook or your own blog

About Widows Harvest

Widows Harvest, a non-profit ministry, serves widows in the Chattanooga area. Many of the women they serve are more than 60 years old, live on fixed incomes of $450 or less each month and have medical problems. In addition to these physical challenges, some are neglected by even their extended families and feel lonely and abandoned.

From their web site:

Widows Harvest Ministries is a Christian based non-profit service organization located in Chattanooga, TN. Our mission is to plead the case of, provide assistance to, and promote the spiritual growth and ministry of widows.

About First Friday Five

Launched by Chattarati in February 2009, First Friday Five is an online local giving project. The concept is simple: organizing one-day online fundraisers for local nonprofit organizations.

With your help, First Friday Five will:

  • take place on the first Friday of every month

  • use social media to ask for $5 donations

  • benefit local non-profits and go towards specific goals

We'd also like to note that our friends at Knoxify kept First Friday Five going this summer in Knoxville.

I'll vouch for Widow's Harvest. Andy and his crew do fantastic work. I'm on the Outreach Committee at my church and every six months we pick a different charity to donate our money to. We just recently chose Widow's Harvest over some pretty stiff competition.

Ditto too what Michael said. I've known Andy for about five years and his group is fantastic - they do unbelievable things on a shoestring budget. If you every have a chance, spend an hour with the Widows and your life will change.

How to you send something to Robert T. Nash? I think Andy would be a great guest on his show!
